Hidden Shores is a relaxed little river subdivision located just outside Smithville Texas along the banks of the Colorado River. It is a one way in one way out kind of place with a loop drive that is almost completely surrounded by the river. Historically most all of the lots in the subdivision had a well and electric service on it. Back in the day people built homes there but now after numerous flood situations, and edicts from Bastrop County and FEMA the ability to build a ground floor home was halted. Any existing ground floor homes with mortgages required Flood Insurance and if damaged more than a certain percentage could never be rebuilt. Many of the lots became permanent RV sites with RV covers, concrete patios. There may be some opportunity to work with Bastrop County Development Services to build a home on stilts which has been done along the River in other counties. Most all of the lots do have river frontage and are great for river activities like kayaking, and fishing. Some even have enough room for a horse or two.
