Kayaking on Lady Bird Lake in Austin TX is a favorite
Lady Bird Lake is a portion of the Colorado River which flows through the downtown area of Austin TX. With it's trails along the shoreline it is a popular place for downtown residents and Austinites to relax and get a little sunshine and excercise. It is also a favorite spot for people to kayak as this portion of the river does not allow motorized watercraft other than the larger bat watching and dinner cruise boats which generally come out in the evening hours.. You can rent kayaks at a number of locations. Three that we have used are just below Barton Springs on Barton Creek, just underneath the Congress Street bridge and one located almost directly underneath Mopac on the lake. Rental fees are generally about 10.00 per hour. It is suggested that you kayak upstream first against any existing current so you will have the current at your back on your return. Try it you will like it!
