The other morning I helped a friend who lives on Old Antioch and to get there I crossed over Alum Creek. It was peaceful and breathtaking. So many parts of Bastrop County are so beautiful! I was called for jury duty last week and while there I toured the hallways downstairs to look at all the historical pictures displayed. Some of the photos were truly amazing. Pictures of old homes, old businesses, streets in the county, historic floods helped me to understand what this County has been through and gave me an appreciation of the settlers who first called Bastrop home.
I was called in for jury duty last week and got to see a part of the old Bastrop Courthouse I did not know even existed! The jury room is in up in the old portion of the courthouse in the old jail on second floor. We had our big jury table right next to four of the old historic cells!
And the back exit out of the jury room took us right in to the old hanging room and out the steps to the area in the parking lot where crowds used to gather to watch the hangings through the second story window.
I sure found it interesting!
Looking for something fun to do with the family this fall? Then consider visiting the Fall Festival and Corn Maze that is being held at the Barton Hill Farm in Bastrop County TX! There is a five acre maze, they have live music, there is a 50′ sunken pirate ship, lots of fall activities, a frontier fort, pumpkin patch, and kids games on the weekends from September 22nd, through November 18th from 9 am to 9 pm. I found $1.00 off discount coupons at Bastrop Feeds out on Hwy 95 and there are coupons on the Barton Hill Farm website ! Barton Hill Farms is located out on FM 969 just a little north of FM 1209 on the right hand side of the road. Don’t miss this fun fall event!
This week I undertand that the City of Bastrop’s Parks Board is considering a skate park for the youth of Bastrop. There is discussion for use of a city owned vacant lot next to Fishermans Park and they are considering holding fundraisers and potential seeking grants to raise the approx. $250k necessary to build it. First step is to set a public hearing so locals can weigh in on the subject. Me…I am all for it!
Happy to announce that I have sold another portion of the Bow and Arrow Ranch. This was a lovely 14 + acre parcel with some elevation that provides nice views of the surrounding ranches. The Buyers are very excited to get started building their custom home. This really was a hidden gem there was no way to tell how nice this property was until you got through the gate!
